Photofacial Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light therapy is similar to laser therapy except multiple colors of light are used instead of focused light. The procedure itself is similar to laser treatment, but there is usually less bruising. PhotoFacial intense pulsed light treatments performed at CVLC (starLux IPL, Sciton BBL, and Palomar Starlux) as well as laser treatments are performed to reduce the redness associated with rosacea and other types of skin redness.

FAQs

How does it work?
IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with color in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different than lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colors) of light in each pulse.

What are IPL treatments like?
During the Photofacial, a hand piece is gently glided over the skin during the 20–30 minute procedure. Eye protection is worn and patients generally feel a slight snapping sensation on the skin during treatment.

How many treatments are required, and when can I expect to see results?
The number of treatments required depends on the severity of conditions being treated but typically 3-5 treatments are performed, spaced about one month apart. Results become apparent even after the first treatment.

What is the cost for treatment?
The cost of the treatment ranges from $375-$1,575 depending on the amount of skin treated.
