My patient came to see me today for her three-month follow up appointment after Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT). She had been suffering with heaviness and tiredness in her legs, along with a tender bulging vein that ran from the inside of her right thigh to her calf. She was diagnosed with venous insufficiency and treated with EVLT. Now, three months later, she told me that she “is just so pleased,” her legs feel great and her bulging vein (which is a branch off of the vein that was treated) is almost gone.

Fraxel Re:StoreTM non-ablative fractionated laser resurfacing is a commonly performed procedure here at CVLC. It really yields significant results with minimal downtime. It can target wrinkles and pigmentation, and it is quite good at treating acne or surgical scars.
This patient had 4 sessions, 1 month apart, to treat her upper and lower eyelids for wrinkling and had a very nice improvement. Each treatment gave her about 2 days of swelling and redness, but was well tolerated. She did not have downtime in her schedule for a more aggressive procedure – so Fraxel Re:StoreTM was a good choice for her and her lifestyle.

It makes my day to see a patient come back to the office after a procedure and be thrilled with the results. This patient said she didn’t even need to see her before pictures because she remembers them “all too well” and is “only looking forward.”
She underwent laser liposuction performed on her submental (neck) region about six weeks prior (see photos below). In her case, she needed the laser component of the procedure to increase the skin tightening. 
Her result were exactly what we were hoping for – an improved jaw line and neck. We are both thrilled with the results!

Recently I had a patient who was very concerned that Botox treatment would make her look unnatural. After her consultation, she proceeded with the treatment. Below are her before and after photos, just two weeks later:
Before her treatment, she looked angry, tired and aged. After, she looks natural, relaxed, well-rested and even brighter eyed! These treatments only take 5-10 minutes, with very little discomfort and no down time.
Dr. Brauer and I perform at least 5 Botox-type treatments everyday and I am still amazed at the results!

Does your child have a red spot on his/her face? If so, it’s very common. So common, that I typically treat 3 to 5 children each week for what we call “spider moles.” These dilated capillaries are nothing to worry about medically, just merely a cosmetic concern. Unfortunately, spider moles usually do not go away on their own.
Although it is a very safe and easy laser treatment, I only recommend treating when the child is concerned about it. If the treatment is for the parent only, the child may resent them even for bringing the child in for a consultation.
This particular patient in the photo was continually being asked at school what she “had on her face.” With simply one pulse or “zap” of a yellow light laser (cynergy pulsed dye laser), the spot is permanently clear within a few weeks!

One of the most common concerns that people have when considering non-invasive cosmetic enhancements is the fear of looking “fake”, “false” or “unnatural.”
I have this conversation with patients on a daily basis. The REAL truth is, performed correctly, patients will receive a VERY natural result. My and Dr. Brauer’s goal is for people to look relaxed, less tired and globally more youthful. This is accomplished with a combination of relaxers (Botox or Dysport) and fillers (Juvederm/Restylane/Perlane/Radiesse).
The reason I wanted to discuss this with you is that, more common than not, people are worried about these treatments for the wrong reasons. When in reality, if the procedures are performed correctly, the results are extremely predictable, ranging from very subtle to dramatic depending on our patient’s wants.

On Sunday morning, 10/10/10, I participated in the 26.2 mile Chicago marathon with the other 45,000 passionate runners. It was 62 degrees at the start, but by 10:30am it reached 83 degrees! It was my 5th full marathon and quite an event with up to 1.5 million spectators. Even with the intense heat, I managed to finish in under 4 hours.
When I completed my first marathon in Nashville in 2006, I vowed that one full marathon would be enough. But the sense of accomplishment has been so gratifying, I don’t know if I will ever say “never again”!
